“Experience spring in full flight during the Stork Weekend in the Zwin!”
The Zwin Nature Park joyfully welcomes the return of the Zwin storks, a wonderful sign that spring is just around the corner. From their arrival in the park, until their departure in August, this period offers countless opportunities to admire these majestic birds and enjoy their presence. The upcoming stork weekend is a great opportunity to pay extra attention to this special bird species.
During the weekend, the park guide will lead visitors along the nesting posts in the park. These short walks will take place at every hour between 10am and 3pm, with participants meeting the park guide at the reception plaza. Pre-registration is not necessary, as the walk is included in the stork weekend activities and is accessible with a standard admission ticket.
The return of the storks transforms the park, and guides are happy to share interesting facts about these beautiful birds, including their itinerary during migration. For a more in-depth experience, visitors can also visit the stork tower, where they can peek into the nests without disturbance.
Several children’s activities are planned for young visitors, including listening to the story of ‘Stork’ and crafting a stork crown to become a stork themselves. These activities will take place in the forest hut and viewing centre throughout the day.
For those who want to learn more about the research on the Zwin storks, the park will organise a lecture on the transmitter project on Saturday, presented by Wouter Faveyts, a scientific collaborator of the Zwin Nature Park. On Sunday, a fascinating lecture on the stork itself is scheduled. Both lectures will take place at 14h and 15h30 in the Teatro Anatomico, and registration is not required, as they are included in the entrance to the park.
In short, the stork weekend at Zwin Nature Park promises to be an educational and engaging experience for all ages, giving visitors the chance to admire these beautiful birds up close and learn more about their fascinating way of life.
